Prairie View A&M University Goat Field Day Scheduled May 2
CANCELLED EVENT
For Immediate Release
Public Announcement
The Prairie View A&M University College of Agriculture and Human Sciences’ International Goat Research Center is cancelling its 2009 Annual Goat Field Day, originally scheduled for May 2.
“We are cancelling this activity in order to do our part to avoid the risk of spreading H1N1 influenza,” said Dr. Freddie L. Richards, dean of the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences. “It’s important that we act in concert with other state agencies and organizations and that we support the efforts of local school districts and county health departments.”
Regarding upcoming college-wide programs for other large audiences that involve youth, as well as research and extension events set for later dates, Richards said the college will make event-by-event announcements as soon as possible.
“I regret the disappointment to our goat producers, scholarship donors, USDA supporters, corporate sponsors, vendors, 4-H’ers who participate in the Kid Giveaway Program, their families, our staff and others who have worked diligently to prepare this year’s event, but this action also enables them to take their own precautions without risking possible exposure to this influenza.”
